Nano-crystal Bi0.5Sb1.5Te3 has been synthesized by a simple hydrothermal or solvothermal approach. The nanoerystal size and morphologies can be turned by changing the types of solvent and the amount of surfactant. When the surfactant concentration is small, the as-prepared Bi0.5Sb1.5Te3 crystal grains are only several tens nanometers,which are expected to be the original powder for the nano-structured bulk thermoelectric materials with high performance. The low synthesis rate and the selective adsorption of the surfactant may be the reason for the reduction of the product size and the obtaining of nanoplates.
