The characteristics and related technology of heavy timber structure were summarized in this paper.By referring to the engineering application in developed countries and considering current economic and social development as well as the requirements of civil engineering construction technology in China,the feasibility and suitability of heavy timber structures in China were analyzed in terms of policy orientation,social demand,wood resources security and technological capabilities.Finally,the application of heavy timber structure in China was prospected.
