5-（8-Hydroxyquinoline-5-azo）-1,3-diethyl- phthalate was synthesized through multi-step reaction with isophthalic acid as raw material.Then it reacted with chloride ethanol further to get a new type of azobenzene quinoline compound. The structure of the compound was characterized by IR and 1H NMR.
