Guide for Navigation is really the first meteorological work that was translated into Chinese by an American missionary.In order to expose the law of storms and to help Chinese mariners to guard against the storms,the translator added relevant knowledge into the translated version and constructed a theoretical system about storms.However,the religious identity of the translator undesirably affected his purpose and hindered the spread of the meteorological research findings.
