Shanghai port＇s rapid development in modern times is due to the locational advantage. Comparing with Ningbo port,Shanghai port has three unique locational advantages. First, Shanghai port is located in the Yangtze river estuary and Yangtze river basin becomes Shanghai port＇s hinterland. Second, in the middle of 19th century, Suzhou was the commercial center in the Yangtze river delta and Shanghai port was the outer harbor of Suzhou. Third, there are many rivers in Taihu lake basin and through the rivers Shanghai port can contact with the hinterland easily.
