The investigation and applications of light environment control and light emitting diode （LED） in protected vegetable cultivation were summarized in this paper. The main contents included the present status and existing problems in protected vegetable cultivation in China, application of light control in protected vegetable cultivation, studies and prospects of LED used in protected vegetable cultivation.
