Particle species,particle size distribution(PSD)in sewage and method for characterizing PSD were introduced.PSD is associated with chemical composition,which for different wastewater have different characteristics and varies in treatment process.PSD is used to interpret wastewater characteristics,assess appropriate treatment technologies and estimate expected removal performance.PSD provides essential information on the fate of COD fractions subjected to biological treatment.It could estimate whether the carbon source is adequate or not and could be used to study removal mechanism and optimize the treatment effect in biological treatment.Colloidal material has been implicated to play a crucial role as an intermediary for behavior and fate of trace materials in environmental and biogeochemical process.In deep filtration,PSD in wastewater effluents relates to power law function.Mechanism for removing trace materials such as estrogen could be studied by PSD.As a new studying tool,PSD is appropriate to be applied in wastewater treatment,which is of significance to the mechanism research and upgrade of technology.
