BOLD MRI was firstly used in central nervous system. Recently, it begins to be used in kidney diseases, which can noninvasively evaluate the tissue oxygenation status of kidney. BOLD MRI has significance of clinical applica- tion, but there are still some limits of it. The fundamental mechanism and progresses of clinical application of renal BOLD MRI were reviewed in this article.
