The Calanthe R. Br. was praised as ＂the Beauty of orchids＂ in China. All the species of this genus were rare and endangered as described in Volume 1 of China Species Red List. The progress of studies on Calanthe in foreign and domestic research over the last three decades,including the taxonomy,tissue culture,developmental biology,conservation, medicinal value etc were summarized. The future direction of research was discussed and corresponding suggestions were also raised here in order to provide reference to related studies.
