By the method of line transect, a bird community survey was conducted in the middle reaches of Hutuo river wetlands from September 2008 to November 2009. A total of 217 species of birds belonging to 52 families and 16 orders were recorded, and among of which, 169 species were migrants （including summer breeders, winter species and transient migrants）, 46 species were residents and 2 vagrant; 148 species belonged to Palearctic realm, 23 species to Oriental realm and 46 species to widespread; 30 species were national protected wildlife in China. The results showed that the value of diversity index among these species was H=3.425 （Shannon-Weiner index） , DG-F=0.821 （G-F index）,E=0.637 （Pielou index）. The comparability of avian community was lower between different habitats, indicating that a negative effect on bird diversity would be happened if any habitat was destroyed.
