Extensive experimental and theoretical data in literature are analyzed for solid Au at high temperatures up to 5 000 K. It is demonstrated in this paper that the P-V-T relation below the melting temperature 1 336.4 K can be described by the universal equation of state (UEOS) for solids proposed by Vinet et al, while for temperatures higher than the melting point, we proposed a new equation of state (EOS) for solid Au, taking the melting curve as the reference state, for the description of the high pressure and high temperature behavior. The fitting of the existing literature data shows the full applicability of the proposed equation.
