Herbicidally active uracil derivatives are protoporphyrinogen oxidase inhibitors. In this paper, we discuss the development of these herbicides, along with their mechanism of action and structure-activity relationships. Current research on structure optimization of the 3-aryl uracil derivatives is also presented, along with a detailed discussion of chemical structure, development, synthesis method, biological activity, and future prospects of several uracil derivatives.
