Objective To investigate the prevalence and risk factors of hypertension in residents of Shapingba Area of Chongqing. Methods A total of 669 residents at age 20-80 were randomly selected from six blocks(Shabei Street,Laodong Road,Shuangbei Road,Xinqiao Street,Shijingpo Street,Tianxingqiao Street) of Shapingba Area of Chongqing through multistage sampling and we finally get 317 compeleted data.Risk factors were identified by univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses. Results Crude and age-standardized prevalence rate of hypertension were 31.55%,19.8%(standerdized Chinese population in 2004) and 19.1%(standerdized world population),respectively.Of all the factors, age, family history of hypertension,HLP,diabetes mellitus, drinking, overheat diet,over-intake of salt, eating fried food and smoking were associated with hypertension through univariate logistic regression analysis.Multivariate logistic regression analysis showed that hypertension was associated with age, family history of hypertension,HLP,drinking,over-intake of salt and eating fried food(all P0.05;OR=1.821,5.265,6.235,2.703,4.000,4.581,respectively).The accuracy rate of factors selected was 84.2%.Conclusion Prevalence of hypertension is high in residents of Shapingba area of Chongqing.Age,family history of hypertension,HLP,drinking,over-intake of salt and eating fried food may be risk factors for hypertension in this area.Paying more attention to the eating habit, especially less salt, less oil and limited drinking, may help to prevent and control hypertension in this area.
