The conjugated dyad system TTFan, linking the strong fluorescent anthracene unit to tetrathiafulvalene moiety through a double bond, was synthesized by the Witting reaction. Upon oxi- elation of the TTF moiety in TTFan, the electron-donating ability of TTF was reduced dramatically. As a result, the "off-on" process restored the fluorescence of anthracene quenched by the neutral TTF.
