A concise analytical expression for the transmittance of a homogeneous dielectric film is derived based on the transfer matrix method. It demonstrates a homogeneous oscillation in the transmittance as the function of the frequency. The amplitude and the period of the oscillation are also readily obtained by the expression analytically. Then, the behaviors of laserpulses propagating through a film under different conditions are discussed. All these properties are analogous to those of a one-dimensional periodic structure to some degrees.
