C5 petroleum resin was co-emulsified with rosin by a cationic complex emulsifying system to prepare cationic rosin size. The effects of C5 petroleum resin proportion, the addition levels of alum and cationic rosin size on the sizing degree of handsheets were investigated. The results show that the cationic rosin sizes with 5%-20% of C5 petroleum resin as rosin extender can enhance the sizing efficiency of cationic rosin size significantly. Good sizing performance is obtained when the cationic rosin sizes containing C5 petroleum resin and alum are added at a dosage of 0.8%-1.0% and 2%-2.5%, respectively.
