Synthesis and characterization of 2,5-bis (2-phenanthrenyl) -thieno [ 3,2-b ] thiophene (PhTT) were reported. The compound exhibits a great thermal stability. Absorption measurements and electrochemical characterization revealed that PhTT has a relative broad bandgap and low HOMO ( the highest occupied molecular orbital) level. The field-effect mobility (μFET ) of PhTT from top-contact thin film transistors was 0. 021 cm^2/( V · s). The thin film transistors of PhTT show a good environmental stability.
