General physics is a significant professional foundation course of the science and engineering specialty. It is an important problem how to improve teaching quality and train student to become a person of high quality with innovation and practice ability. Combined with the author＇s practical teaching experience, we discussed the cultivation of students innovation ability and practice ability from several aspects of class room teaching, such as teaching content, teaching methods, evaluation mechanism, etc.
