This paper studies 2870 literature on the warning signs published between 1991 and 2011 with the software ＂CiteSpace II＂, a science measurement tool. Based on quantitative quotation and citation analysis, we divide the warning signs and their application into four major categories. Then we identify the intellectual base, and further draw a visual map of the research development and hot pots of the warning signs, so as to lay a solid foundation for deeper investigations in this field.
