The resolution of clenbuterol hydrochloride enantiomers was achieved by thin-layer chromatography on silica gel GF254 plates impregnated with hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin. The effect of stereoselective auxiliary (acetonitrile and alcohol) was investigated. From methanol to octanol, resolution of clenbuterol hydrechloride enantiomers could be attained by using alcohols of four carbon atoms such as butanol, 2-butanol or tert-butanol together with acetonitrile. The mechanism of resolution was investigated, the optimal conditions of resolution were determined as follows : acetonitrile: tea-butanol = 50:50(v/v) under ambient temperature, being resolved for about 12 min.
