晚泥盆世弗拉期末F-F的生物灭绝事件,导致珊瑚以及许多浅海底栖生物灭绝,几乎整个法门期珊瑚群都处于残存阶段,华南地区目前只在湖南的个别地方发现少量的Smithiphyllum。直到法门期末珊瑚和其它一些造礁底栖生物开始复苏,出现了不少与典型泥盆纪珊瑚存在很大差别的新分子。华南泥盆纪最晚期(Strunian)的珊瑚可划分成上、下两个组合:上部Cystophrentis组合;下部Eocaninophyllum组合。泥盆一石炭纪之交的另一次生物灭绝事件,使新生的泥盆纪最晚期的珊瑚又遭灭绝。

英文摘要:

Very few corals are known from the Famennian of the world including South China. A large number of shelly benthos living in the shallow platform of Late Devonian sea were killed by the F- F mass extinction event in the end of Frasnian. Reefs and the characteristic Devonian corals sud- denly disappeared. There is only one coral genus Smithiphyllum found from the Hsikuangshan For- mation (lower and middle Famennian substages) in Hunan Province, South China. The lower-middleupper Famennian was the survival interval for the shallow water corals. After a long-term survival interval, corals began to make a recovery at the uppermost Famennian substage in South China. A new Strunian (latest Famennian) coral fauna has been recovered from the Shaodong Formation (lower) and Mengkung'ao Formation (upper) respectively. This fauna falls into two assemblages: Lower Eocaninophyllum Assemblage (including Eocaninophyllum, Ceriphyllum, Diphyphyllurn, Cornplanophyllum, Zaphrentoides, Dematophyllurn) and upper Cystophrentis Assemblage (yielding Cystophrentis, Beichuanophyllum, Neobei- chuanophyllum, Siphonophylloides). They lived in a near-shore region with rough sea water and sufficient oxygen. Both assemblages located in BA3 of Boucot' s Benthic Assemblage Scale. It lacked a radiation interval in Devonian Famennian Stage because another event (the D-C crisis) hap- pened at the Devonian-Carboniferous boundary. Another offshore community which inhabited the slope region with quiet, stagnant and deeper sea water facies also existed in the latest Famennian from South China. The Yishanophyllum Assemblage located in BA5 of Boueot's Benthic Assemblage Scale.
