Forest fires are one of the major natural disasters in the earth. Although forest fires are of similar characteristics with general disasters, they have their own characters independent from the others. In this paper, the author summarizes the natural and social attribute, characteristics, main research contents and research methods of the natural disasters. They provide theoretical foundation for the division and classified governance of forest fires.
