Objective ： To study the therapeutic effect and mechanism of Aescine producing injection in mice with ischemic brain edema. Methods ： Prepare mice cerebral ischemia model. The experimental mice were randomly divided into four groups, control group, model group, dexamethasone group and Aescine group. Aescine groups were injected through tail vein 3.6 mg/kg, once a day, for seven days. Dexamethasone group were given equal dose dexamethasone. Model and control groups were given equal dose 0.9% physiological saline, once a day, for seven days. Determine water content in brain tissue of rats by wet and dry weight method. Determine IL - 1 and ET contents in brain tissue by ELISA. Results ： Compared with the control group, model group＇s water content of brain tissue increased. The contents of IL - 1β and ET were both increased （ P 〈 0. 01 ）. Compared with the model group, Dexamethasone and Aescine groups＇ water content of brain tissue decreased and the contents of IL - 1β and ET were both decreased（P 〈 0. 01 ）. Conclusion ： Aescine producing injection can reduce the degree of brain edema in mice with ischemic brain edema and improve the pathological changes of brain tissue. The mechanism of action is related to the decrease of the contents of IL - 1 β and ET in brain tissue.
