The basic conception, classification, historical development and preparation method of emulsion liquid membrane were introduced. The swelling stability of the emulsion liquid membrane as well as the mass transfer mechanism of emulsion liquid membrane separation were discussed. Application of emulsion liquid membrane separation technology in wastewater treatment was presented in detail with its future development prospected.
