Podocytes play a crucial role in establishing the selective permeability of the blood-urine filtration barrier.Dysfunctions of podocytes lead to proteinuria which is a hallmark of most glomerular diseases.There are 2 kinds of protein degradation pathways in podocyte cytoplasm:autophagy system and the ubiquitin proteasome system.It will help us to understand the key role of podocytes playing in integrity of glomerular filtration barrier by studying the mechanism of the intracellular protein degradation,which will also provide a reliable basis on the treatment of kidney diseases in the future.
