This article describes a simple approach for hybrid biocomposites containing polygonal Au crystallites on silk fibroin fibers by reducing HAuCI4 with SFF in aqueous solutions without the use of any additional capping agents. XRD, TEM and SAED studies reveal that the microparticles are single crystals with face centered cubic (fcc) structure. With FTIR measurement, it can be proved that SFF act as a mild reductent due to phenolic hydroxyl on its surface. Furthermore, the crystallization process has been observed by controlling the extent of reaction and the measurements of products by FESEM.
