Social groups vary in time spent on the internet. This paper investigates the relationship between attributes of social groups and internet time spending, with an analytic focus on how internet use increases social integration. The anal-ysis of the Shaanxi and Guangxi portions of the 2010 Chinese Survey of Social Change(CSSC)shows that the people with higher education or higher household income spend more time on the internet,so do urban residents. In addition,mem-bers of social groups with fewer weak ties to others spend more time on the internet. These findings reveal a negative rela-tionship between internet time spending and degree of one′s integrated into greater society through interactions in the ac-tual,rather than virtual, social space.
