In the spring of 2012, the School of Cultural Heritage of Northwest University carried out an archaeological investigation of ancient archaeological sites in Binxian, Shaanxi province. The current paper is a summary of thirteen sites of the Shang and Zhou dynasties. According to preliminary analysis, the investigated remains are dated to the proto-Zhou to Western Zhou period. Remains distributed along the Jing river are different from those north of the Hei river basin and in the Hongyan river basin. In particular, reddish brown pottery found in the Hongyan river basin shows distinctive regional characteristics. The differences between these remains probably result from regional culture and population. This investigation provides important physical materials for Shang and Zhou cultural distribution and regional cultural characteristics in the Jing river basin, proto-Zhou archaeological culture and evolution of ancient Bin culture.
