Drawing on the co-opetition perspective, it examined the direct and interaction effects of the co-opetition fac- tors, including cooperation (joint action and relational solidarity) and conflict, on knowledge acquisition. Data were collected by interviewing two key informants in each of 205 Chinese firms engaged in alliances. Results indicate that joint action enhances the extent of knowledge acquisition, but the inverted U-shaped hypotheses between relational soli- darity and knowledge acquisition as well as between conflict and knowledge acquisition are not supported. The interac- tions between joint action and conflicts and between relational solidarity and conflicts both increase the extent of knowl- edge acquisition. It offers important theoretical and managerial insights for the firms to acquire valuable knowledge from alliance partners.
