“万岁”是封建社会常用词之一,学界对其词义诸问题的理析虽成果丰硕,其词义演变历程已基本厘清,但其释义却仍有可商榷之处。本文建立在此前研究的基础上,检索语言类词典16种,各种专科词典7种,搜罗其对该词的释义及用例情况进行分析,进一步理清“万岁”一词的内涵义,发现其中有4个义项分合不定,且所举佐证纠缠不清。基于此,笔者提出两点意见:1.在词义发展过程中,“万岁”之义可分三系:(1)数量词,万年;(2)祝福义;(3)皇帝的代称;2.义项“帝、后死的讳称”是不存在的。根据检索现存词典和现有成果中所引之相关佐证的共性特点,足可见此义项是对“万岁(千秋万岁)”之后(后、之期)词组的释义,而非对“万岁”单个词条的释义。
The honorific title of wansui (万岁),literally meaning ‘ long live’ ,is one of the most frequently used phrase in feudal times, which used to be adopted exclusively to address the emperor as a prayer for his long life and reign. At present, many scholars have attempted interpretations into the implied meanings of this phrase, making it more and more clearly defined. However, there are a host of issues remaining to be clarified regarding its exact in-terpretation. Based on an retrieval of information via dictionaries and previous studies, the present author proposes new perspectives on the implied meanings of wansui (万岁).
