Artificial Neural Network （ANN） has been widely used in chemical industry, communication, automated control and formulation optimization etc. because of its unique abilities of non-linearly and adaptively processing data. ANN is introduced and its applications in classification, formulation optimization, defect diagnosis and performance prediction in ceramic industry are summarized in this paper. The existing problems are pointed out and the prospect for the future application of ANN is also put forward.
