A new assessment method for urban land suitability evaluation based on geographic information system（GIS） and artificial neural network（ANN） is proposed. In order to properly evaluate urban land, a new analysis index system is put forward. Finally, the method is used to evaluate the suitability of Jinan using GIS and SOFM, and the result shows that it is accurate and effective.
