A novel copper-azido complex, [ Cu, ( N3 ) 6 (mpm) 2]n In [ 1, mpm = (methoxy) ( pyridine-2- yl) methanol], was synthesized by coordination reaction, using 2-pyridinecarboxaldehyde, 4-aminopyridine, CuC12 · 2H2O and NaN3 as materials. The structure was characterized by IR, elemental analysis, single-crystal X-ray and powder X-ray diffraction. 1( CCDC: 1 405 719) belongs to mono- clinic and space group P21/n. The cell parameters of 1 was a = 14.290 5 ( 15 ) A, b = 11. 286 3 (10) A,c=15.8085(14) A, F(000) =1 552, Dc=2.095 g. cm-3, V=2481.2(4) A3, Mr= 782.67, Z = 4,/.t = 3. 452 mm^-1, R1 = 0.048 5, toR2 = 0.096 8. The minimum unit of 1 was constituted by four Cu( 11 ). Different units was connected by two azides ions with EO and EE bridging modes, respectively.
