As a mature global industry, the musical instrument industry is under-going a rapid development and evolution. In view of the piano as the most important instrument, this paper will take piano for example to study the transfer of global musical instrument industry and the distribution of the global value activities. The research shows that the piano manufacturing goes through five global transferences, that is the transfer inside the Western Europe, the trans- fer from Europe to American and then that from America to the Western Europe and Japan, that from Japan to the East Asia and also the transfer from Korea to the East Asia The five transfers formed the current distribution of the global value activities which reveals the ladder-like distribution of the global piano manu- facturing in which the Europe and America work as the first stage, Japan and Korea the second and China the third It also takes more weight in the core competitiveness of the products and brand's research and design. According to the research, this paper gives some suggestions to the instrument manufacturing in China.
