英文摘要：
It is worth concerning and studying how to make the public play an important role through the process of environmental impact assessment （EIA）, to enhance the effectiveness of public participation and to promote sustainability of socio-economic development. The development status of public participation in EIA in China was introduced, and its problems in terms of system design and practice were analysed. Some solutions were proposed such as the improvement of public participation through strengthening legislation, raising public environmental awareness, promoting NGO, and etc.
