Zirconia coated hematite powder is prepared by heating ZrOCl2 alcohol-aqueous solution with well dispersed hematite powder. The as-prepared zirconia shell is amorphous and has a thickness of 10nm. After annealing at 500℃ for 3h, the amorphous zirconia shell crystallizes to tetragonal zirconia(t-ZrO2 ). The t-ZrO2 coated hematite powder is able to resist the corrosion in acid solution.
