The majority of fatty acid -oxidation occurs in mitochondria and is controlled by carnitine palmitoyltransferase 1 A (CPT1 A), which is a key regulator to facilitate the transfer of long-chain fatty acids across the mitochondrial membrane for β-oxidation in mammals. A variety of biologic compounds can regulate the activity of CPT1A and this regulation may influence the evolvement of several metabolic diseases. However, the transformation of CPT1A could bring new possibilities to researches and develop therapies and medicines for those related diseases. This paper mainly reviews the research progress of CPT1A's effect and regulation in the life progression and the development of the related diseases and pharmacies of CPT1A.
