Song and auditory nuclei are innervated by midbrain catecholaminergic fibers, and express dopamine and norepinephrine receptors. In different social environment, activity and immediate early genes expression of midbrain catecholaminergic cells and controlling target regions are significantly different. These studies suggest that the midbrain cateeholaminergie neurons involve in regulating birdsong and auditory process. The involvement of cateeholaminergic neurons in song behavior and auditory process is reviewed.
