Gait recognition is a new research branch in the biometric recognition field. It can be obtained by relatively long distance without the need of physical contact, and it is hard to obscure and forge. Since gait as a biometric shows increasing recognition capability in intelligent video surveillance tasks, the recent advances of gait recognition technology is introduced, including the researches on gait-based gender recognition, gait-based age recognition and multiview gait recognition. The significant development trend of gait recognition is also investigated.
