The effects of alloying elements on the constituent phases, phase lattice structure and microstructu- ral morphology of niobium silicide based ultra-high temperature alloys are reviewed, and the mechanism of phase for- mation is discussed. Furthermore, the effects of several important alloying elements on ultra-high temperature oxida- tion resistance and mechanical properties of the alloy system are summarized. Finally, the application of phase diagram calculation technique in composition design and microstructural analysis of niobium silicide based alloys is introduced.
