A control system is designed for performing the alignment of the incident laser beam and the determination of the measuring re- gion of Thomson scattering diagnostic, which measures the electron temperature and density during plasma discharges on EAST, and the ac- curacy of the system is very important for the measurements. To save precious operation time during the experiment, with the control system involved, a fast and convenient method of laser alignment control has been given. The target controller based on SCM PIC16F874A of the system will be mainly discussed, which has the capability of failure recovery, optical fiber communication, small size, etc, compared with the traditional step motor controller. It has been employed in EAST Thomson scattering diagnostic, and reduced significantly the time needed for the optical alignment due to reliable operation and precise control.
