The materials of liquid crystal photoalignment layers have been the subject of intensive research in recent years, and the photocrosslinking materials have been give more attention due to their higher thermal stability and better alignment. This paper reviewed the development of the photocrosslinkable polymers substituted with photodimerizable chains such as cinnamates, coumarins, styrylpyridines, benzylidenephthalimidines and diphenylacetylene. Their photodimerization mechanisms were also analyzed.
