As an important member of the families of nanrotrophic factors, ciliary neurotrophic factor （CNTF） is distributed in central nervous system widely. Optic nerve and retina are parts of central nervous system. Retinal ganglion cells play an important role in visual conduction . As a non-target-derived neurotrophic factor, CNTF plays an important role in regulating the growth and development of retinal ganglion cells. Meanwhile, CNTF can also promote the survival and axonal regeneration of the injured retinal ganglion cells.
