英文摘要：

Based on a survey of the frequently-used reduplicative forms in the major works of the novelist Yan Lianke, this paper discusses the relationship between the possibility and reality of reduplication from the aspects of form and meaning. First it describes the various patterns of reduplication patterns and their complicated ways of construction. Then it reveals the structural relations as well as the semantic features of the temporary reduplicative forms and illustrates our point by making a case study of the special ones. It finds out that the reduplicative forms in Yan＇ s works share the same grammatical meaning, that is： augmentation. Further, the condition for the realization of the possible forms is that they should perform specific pragmatic functions. This paper concludes that we should focus our attention not only on the realized phenomena of language but also on the potential ones, especially on the constraints and communicative value of their realization.
