Objective To develop a quality of life rating scale for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease （COPD）. Methods The programmed decision making mode was used to develop a scale consistent with Chinese cultural background for rating the life quality of COPD patients, then the scale was assessed by analyzing the data from 86 patients with COPD. Results The α value of the coefficients of internal consistency, r value of the test - retest reliability and the value of split - half for the scale were 0. 93, 0. 94 and 0. 84 respectively ; most of internal consistency and test - retest reliability for each domain were above 0. 6 ; most of correlation coefficients between each item and its domain were above 0. 5 ; The measurement had the ability to detect clinical change due to treatment; Most of the patients could finish the questionnaire in 15 -20 minutes. Conclusion The QLICD - COPD is of valid, reliable, sensitive and feasible operation in clinical settings, and it can be used in China to assess quality of life for patients with COPD.
