从春秋战国时期的诸子散文,到汉代的骈体赋,再到明清八股,都大量地使用了骈句的形式。骈句讲求对仗,重视骈对与音韵的和谐,凸显出我国古典文学的艺术魅力。在中国古典文学对外译介的过程中,骈句的英译既要保留东方古典文化的特色,又要以西方语言的形式体现出我国古典诗文中的语言韵味。因而兼顾中西方语言与文化差异的骈句英译,在整个翻译理论及其实践中有着举足轻重的地位。探讨骈句的形成、发展以及对我国古典文学的影响,结合中外学者的理论实践,从结构、修辞和意象三个方面研究骈句的英译,强调协调中西方文化差异,平衡语言转换过程中的语义流失非常必要。
A large number of couplets were adopted in Chinese classical literature,such as proses written by the philosophers in the Spring and Autumn and the Warring States periods, parallel proses of the Fu litera- ture in the Han Dynasty, and Baguwen or Eight-Part Essay in the Ming and Qing Dynasty. Couplets,with its unique style of centering on antithesis, parallelism and rhythmical harmony, further demonstrate the artistic appeal of Chinese classical literature. In the progress of foreign translation of Chinese classics, cou- plets translation has taken its place in the study of translation theories and practice due to such aspects as retaining cultural features of Chinese classics, displaying the rhythm of ancient Chinese verses. The cou- plets translation of ancient Chinese verses in view of harmonizing differences of languages and cultures be- tween East and West is of great importance in translation theory and practice by introducing how couplets was emerged and developed, and how they influenced Chinese classical literature. Meanwhile, it also takes some theories and related practice of Chinese and foreign scholars as references, and discusses couplets translation in terms of structure, rhetoric and images. It focuses on illustrating the importance of harmoni- zing cultural differences and complementing semantic losses in couplets translation.
