Abstract: The Nanling Mountains and their adja- cent highlands mostly have an approximate altitude of 2000 m, where the top planation surfaces are still remained on some summits. These planation surfaces joined once each other imply that the vast southeastern part of China was in a state of peneplain during late geological period. The data from sediments, tectonic and erosion rate show that this original peneplain was formed in the end of the Oligoeene Epoch, a long crust steady phase after the first episode of Himalaya tectonic movement. These planation surfaces are comparable with the summit planation surfaces of the mountains on the Tibetan Plateau and in the Beitai episode in Northern China, probably implying that they were united peneplain during the end of the Oligocene Epoch, although they are far from each other and are even located in different plates and tectonic systems.
