Organic coating technique is an effective way to protect metals against corrosion and oxidation. Recently, the hydrophobicity of organic coatings has been deeply investigated in preparing self-cleaning surfaces. The application of organic coatings in the field of metallic materials is summarized, including the various methods of pre-treatments for metal surfaces, especially utilizing silane coupling agents.
