A serious of Gd5Si4-xInx（x=0.0,0.5,0.8,1.2） compounds were prepared by arc melting method.The crystal structure and magnetocaloric effect in the compounds have been investigated by using X-ray diffraction and magnetic measurements.Powder X-ray diffraction results show that the compounds crystallize in the orthorhombic Gd5Si4 type structure,a minor Gd5Si3 was detected as impurity phase.Magnetic measurements show that the TC of Gd5Si4-xInx are 345,340,330,326K,and the magnetic entropy changes of the compounds for a magnetic field change of 0～1.5T are 2.9,0.8,0.6,0.6J/（kg·K）,respectively for x=0.0,0.5,0.8,1.2.
