Spark plasma discharge technique has been applied to the preparation of powder materials, like pure metals, alloys, compounds, semiconductors and ceramics. The advantages of the powders include： high sphericity, containerless melting, rapid in situ quenching, and superfine etc. The mechanism and feature of spark plasma dis- charge are presented. Development of fabrication of superalloys powder by spark plasma discharge is also discussed.
